Welcome
Integrated circuits (IC’s) are arguably  the twentieth century’s most important invention.  The first integrated circuit was created by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments.  His invention overcame a problem called tyranny of numbers that existed with the day’s computers and electronic devices.  Basically tyranny of numbers has to do with the fact that having a large number of electronic devices in a computer leads to many problems.  Specifically that the connections and wiring quickly becomes hard to design and construct.  (You try welding 15 million transistors on the area the size of a penny!)

This web site is of interest to anyone who wants to know about how integrated circuits are made.  The authors have tried to provide an interesting , easy to read yet comprehensive guide to the history, and fabrication process of the modern integrated circuit.  So click here or choose a topic from the side bar to begin.
