Welcome to Cube History!
The Magic Cube
Invented by Erno Rubik in 1974, the 3x3 Rubik's cube has become a pop culture icon and the best selling toy of all time. Using it's 6 rotating sides and 26 cublets, the Rubik's cube has a staggering 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible permutations. However, no matter how scrambled the cube may be, it is at most 20 moves from being solved! This value (God's Number) was calculated by Tomas Rokicki and his team at Google in 2010.

History of Competition
Formed in August 2004, the World Cubing Association (WCA) is a worldwide nonprofit organization that governs competitions for all manner of 'twisty puzzles'. The flagship and most competitive event at all cubing competitions is the 3x3 Rubik's Cube. The WCA recognizes both single solve and average world records for the 3x3. This website has two timelines showing the history both records with videos of the record-breaking solves.
